Fake Hacked Email
It has been brought to our attention that the personal email account of a former employee of the Village was recently hacked and many of their contacts were sent bogus emails asking for a return reply. If you reply, a response is sent back with a request for money due to a “desperate situation.” Please ignore this email and do not respond to it. No personal information or Village records of any taxpayer was compromised. This was not a Village issue, but an email issue that effected only that former employee’s personal email account.
Prior to March of 2016, Village employees were allowed to use their personal email for Village business. This policy was changed and Village business is conducted only through secure email that is property of the Village. The only official email you will receive from the Village will come from an @golfmanoroh.gov address.
The highly connected world we live in is both a blessing and a curse at times. We as individuals always need to be cognizant of the need to carefully look at emails and manually sort out messages that don’t look real. Don’t open links that look suspicious and don’t respond to requests that appear to be bogus, unreal or outlandish, especially those for money.
Please ignore and delete any messages that present themselves as Village business if they do not come from @golfmanoroh.gov. Official email correspondence will only come from @golfmanoroh.gov. Mark anything else as “spam” or “junk” email. We are sorry for any inconvenience.
