Federal Emergency Management Agency to Conduct Nationwide Test on Wednesday, Oct. 3

HAMILTON COUNTY (10/2/2018) – The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), in coordination with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), will conduct the first nationwide test of the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS) Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) and Emergency Alert System (EAS) on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at approximately 2:18 PM.

This test will assess the operational readiness of the IPAWS infrastructure for distribution of a national message and determine if technological improvements are needed. The EAS test will be conducted in conjunction with radio, television, and cable operators in all U.S. states, territories, and tribal lands, and will result in a test message being distributed over the radio and across participating television stations. The WEA test will take place in coordination with participating wireless providers and will result in a text-like test message being sent to cell phone users. No action is required after receiving these test messages.
