For those that don’t know, the derby is a free racing event thanks to the sponsorship of OfficeKey and Perfection Group Foundation. They provide for the storage of the soapbox cars that the kids can drive, all the maintenance of the cars and race logistics, to keep the race fee-free. So a big thanks to those sponsors.
I want to thank Liz Glover proprietor of the Tiny Bistro who provided food options at the event, and our Golf Manor PD/CIT team for their presence and interaction with the kids and families– that’s specifically Officers Matthews, Ammerman and Ward. And Captain Reed for his coordination of police services at the event.
I also want to express my gratitude to Stan Kokotajlo, Race Director for Cincinnati Soap Box Derby for the 14 year partnership with Golf Manor for the Derby. The amount of time and effort he puts into making this event happen for the benefit of all the kids and families is such a significant contribution, one in which without him I don’t know that the event would continue to occur. I consider him a local saint of soapbox derby. So thank you to him and his wife Elizabeth for all the sacrifices they make for the derby to be possible here in Golf Manor.
They would like me to remind everyone interested, that there is another free race for kids coming up, the CINCINNATI ALL AMERICAN LOCAL RACE on June 1st. That race will be down Larch Avenue on the west side. Winners in that one are eligible to go to Akron, Ohio, with hotel costs covered by sponsors, for the national championships. Age groups are 7-13 and 9-18 (based on size of the racer, 5’3 125 pounds). The registration deadline is this Sunday, May 25th. I’ll get a link up to that local race on our website tomorrow.
